Young LoveHigh School Student Directs Latest Julia Weldon ’05 Music Video

The latest video by singer and songwriter Julia Weldon ’05—featured in Billboard magazine—was directed by a 17-year-old high school student, Kevin von Puttkammer. Titled “Soon II,” the video shows the difficulty and complexity of high school romance and was shot at the director’s New Jersey high school.

The song is from Weldon’s second studio album, Comatose Hope, which was released in July. The songs on the album were inspired by Weldon’s experience in a coma after gender affirming surgery, the songwriter told Billboard

Weldon and the student met on a visit to the high school on National Poetry Day.

“[National Poetry Day] is always a rad experience because high school was when I really delved into songwriting as a way to get through hard feelings, but this past year was even more special because I met Kevin,” Weldon tells Billboard. “I could tell he had a great eye so I sent along my new album Comatose Hope and we started chatting about working on a music video… Before I knew it, Kevin had carefully selected his favorite track on the album, written up a professional treatment and put together a full cast and crew.”
