Vassar Participates in National Volunteer Week
In connection with National Volunteer Week and Earth Day, Vassar students, alumnae/
Fall Kill Creek needs much TLC to turn it into a gem for the City of Poughkeepsie, so Vassar crews tackled the project from different locations on April 21. Arriving in the morning, dozens of volunteers worked through the afternoon to clean up in and around the creek. Others volunteered to work on cleanups in other parts of the city, including Malcolm X Park.
Armed with rakes, gloves, and determination, Vassar crews worked on April 18 with Poughkeepsie Mayor Robert Rolison and Department of Public Works (DPW) employees, the New York State Department of Transportation, and Dutchess County DPW on a project to beautify an arterial intersection.
The work was organized through a few Vassar programs including the Engaged Pluralism Initiative—an evolving community initiative that is reimagining what it means to live, work, and learn together at Vassar.
