Pete Malinowski ’06, Executive Director of the Billion Oyster Project, is reinvigorating the aquatic life in New York City’s waterways by reintroducing a keystone species—the oyster—into the East River and beyond, and he’s doing so with the help of students from the New York Harbor School.

Working under the auspices of Vassar’s Undergraduate Research Summer Institute, George Whiteside ’18 and Dylan Horowitz ‘19 adapted an impulsivity test so that it can be administered not only on smart phones but also on smart watches and voice-activated virtual assistant devices such as Google Assistant.

Take a brief video tour of Eastern California geological formations starting at Zabriskie Point and ending at Rainbow Basin. The video, with awesome drone footage, was taken during a spring break study trip with students in Jeff Walker’s Volcanoes and Civilization class and Kirsten Menking’s Geomorphology class.

Five Vassar students and their teams walked away with three of the top six prizes awarded at the 2017 Yale Healthcare Hackathon. More than 175 undergraduates, medical students, and healthcare professionals competed on 35 teams in the event that took place January 20-22 in New Haven, CT.
