Stay Connected to Campus Via the Misc Digital Editions

Navigating daily life in the midst of a pandemic can be hard, but the staff of the Miscellany News has devised an easy way to keep up with life on the Vassar campus. Starting in early September, the student publication will publish a weekly digital newsletter, and everyone in the Vassar community can subscribe at no cost.

Editor-in-Chief Lucy Leonard ’22 said she and her staff consulted with college administrators and agreed that publishing a paper edition could potentially contribute to the spread of the COVID-19 virus; they wanted to adopt a  “low touch” approach.

“All of us at the Misc are dedicated to ensuring the safety of students, faculty and staff, so we decided to suspend publication of the print edition,” Leonard said.

The Misc stopped publishing its print edition in March when students and faculty left the campus for the balance of the academic year, and switched to a weekly, digital publication. Over the summer, Leonard and her staff of 40 decided to continue that model but created an additional subscription-based service to begin this fall. The newsletter will contain photos, graphics and text from all of its sections—News, Features, Arts, Humor, Opinion, and Sports.

“There is certainly no lack of news—or lack of creativity from our writers—during this challenging time,” Leonard said. “We hope that by creating this weekly newsletter we can keep everyone in the Vassar community informed of what’s happening on campus, including those who will be working or studying remotely this fall.”
